“For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.” (Luke 9:24)

COMMENT: In our Lead Scripture, I believe that Jesus is saying that we should die to selfishness; put God first, others second and ourselves last. Today’s message is aimed at fathers, but the principle can be applied to all Christians.(I’m sure you mothers have your ears, I mean your eyes, wide open.) We only have so much time on this earth, and when we give some of it to others, we are giving part of ourselves. Some fathers believe that if they “bring home the bacon” and plentifully provide for their children, they have done their duty admirably. They are mainly about their own business and leave the mother to spend time with the kids. Now Saints, I am not stoning myself but, regrettably, that is the kind of dad I was some 30 years ago. However, every day I see the head of a family who knows how important it is to spend time with his children. Rob lives right across the street from me and he and Sue have two darling, infant daughters. Rob has arranged his schedule so that he is able to spend one entire day per week with his two sweeties. It is a real joy to see how this Christian man enjoys those precious moments with his kids. Now I know that every father may not be able to devote an entire weekday to his children, but it is vitally important to carve out specific periods of time to be with the little ones. And while you are carving, extract a chunk out for the person who gave those little ones birth.
